A Letter From Our Chairman Emeritus
July 21, 2010
Robert Bach
Chairman Emeritus
Boys & Girls Clubs of America

To our donors, supporters, volunteers and employees:

In relation to a proposed reauthorization of federal funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), a request was made by four U.S. senators for additional information about the organization’s operational policies and expenditures.

BGCA provided a comprehensive reply (March Initial Response), including all details and documentation requested. Our goal throughout these communications has been to help the senators appreciate the scope and impact of the Boys & Girls Club system, and the relationship between the national staff and local Clubs.

Critical to this understanding is the role the national organization plays in providing a wide range of valuable services to local Clubs, including program development, training and significant public and private sector fundraising for Clubs.

After our initial response to the senators, we felt it was imperative to meet with them face-to-face to address any additional questions or concerns, and facilitate our continuing partnership with Congress in support of the Boys & Girls Club mission. Our President and CEO Roxanne Spillett, myself and BGCA executives met with the senators to further engage them in this vital dialogue.

At this meeting, the senators affirmed the critical importance of the work done by our Clubs and voiced some of their concerns.

Though our response was thorough and extensive, they are now seeking further clarification on some details and have followed up with new questions. As was done previously, we gathered the information requested, and provided a comprehensive response on July 20, which you can read (Complete July Response to June 9 Letter) here.

As past chairman of the national Board of Governors, I speak for the entire board in pledging our ongoing commitment to ensuring that Boys & Girls Clubs of America continues to earn the trust and support of its many friends and constituents.

If you have thoughts or comments, please feel free to reach me at chairman@bgca.org.

Sincerely,

Robbie Bach
