U.S. Cellular® is investing $1 million in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to enhance the learning experience for youth and communities by championing K-12 and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) educational programs. This focused approach ensures the company is positively impacting the communities where our associates and consumers work, live and play.
"As a national wireless company driven by innovative technology, it's a natural fit we focus on STEM programming as it helps develop our future associate base,” says Deirdre Drake, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. "We are excited to engage with our communities through a variety of volunteer opportunities that Boys & Girls Clubs have in big and small cities and rural communities across the country."
As part of this initiative, the company announced a goal of 30,000 volunteer hours to complete by the end of the year. By collaborating with local Boys & Girls Clubs, U.S. Cellular associates will impact local communities through a myriad of volunteer efforts including mentorship, Club clean-up days and STEM-focused tutoring opportunities throughout the year.
U.S. Cellular has a longstanding commitment to the community and education. The company has contributed more than $7 million to local elementary and secondary schools since 2009.
