DHL Donates More Than 2,000 Tickets to Underserved Children
New York, June 17, 2008 – This afternoon
at an event hosted by Major League Baseball, DHL and the New York Yankees,
DHL All-Star FanFest spokesmen Yogi Berra and Derek Jeter distributed free
tickets to kids from The Children’s Aid Society, an affiliate of Boys &
Girls Clubs of America. This donation is part of DHL’s contribution of more
than 2,000 tickets to children in the New York area by Tickets for Kids
Charities, a non-profit organization that arranges for underserved children
to attend events that they otherwise would not experience.
Fans enjoyed a sneak preview of DHL
All-Star FanFest at the Outdoor Plaza of the MLB Offices in Manhattan that
included a batting cage for fans to test their swings and the World’s
Largest Baseball. Jeter and MLB officials informed the fans of the many
attractions that encompass the largest baseball fan event in the world. Now
in its 18th season, DHL All-Star FanFest will take place July 11-15 at the
Jacob K. Javits Center. An unrivaled experience for families and fans of all
ages, it includes interactive activities and historical exhibits such as
life-size video batting and pitching cages, free autographs from Hall of
Fame players and MLB legends and much more.
2008 MLB Live Auction
During the five-day event, Hunt Auctions, the official auctioneer of DHL
All-Star FanFest, will offer more than 975 historical sports items at the
2008 MLB Live Auction at DHL All-Star FanFest. Several pieces from the
personal collections of Yankees legends Whitey Ford and Thurman Munson will
be up for bid along with other baseball treasures.
The Whitey Ford collection includes a 1961
World Series Babe Ruth Most Valuable Player Award and a President John F.
Kennedy autographed baseball signed to Whitey Ford. The Thurman Munson
collection includes a 1978 World Series full-size captain’s trophy and 1976
American League MVP Award. Other exclusive items include Lou Gehrig’s New
York Yankees warm-up jacket dating to the final game of his streak in 1939,
and Babe Ruth’s New York Yankees professional model hat from the 1920s-30s.
At DHL All-Star FanFest, Major League
Baseball and Baby Ruth will hold the finale for the Baby Ruth “Take Me Out
to the Ballgame” Video Contest on Monday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) on the
Aquafina Diamond. The national video contest is sponsored by Baby Ruth, the
Official Candy Bar of Major League Baseball, in celebration of the song’s
100th anniversary. Fans were given the opportunity to submit a video clip of
their rendition of the iconic song to Major League Baseball at MLB.com. The
videos were narrowed down by a panel of judges, and fans can vote through
June 30 for their favorite at www.MLB.com/babyruth. The three videos
receiving the most fan votes will perform live in front of a panel of judges
at the event for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead the singing of
the beloved song during the 7th Inning Stretch of the 2008 MLB All-Star Game
at Yankee Stadium.
