Jan. 15, 2013 -- This weekend Boys & Girls Clubs of America held the 3rd Annual Triple Play Fit Family Challenge in Venice Beach, Calif. The Fit Family Challenge, an outgrowth of Triple Play, our fitness and healthy living program, is designed to engage family members in healthy lifestyles. Last year, we engaged 200 family members investing months with them to eat a more balanced diet, become more physically active and spend more quality time together.
Leading the charge was Club alumna and three time Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner Kersee, who joined in the activities and cheered on the participants. At the finale, five families participated in a challenging obstacle course, competed in a nutrition quiz show and took part in a family talent show that reflected the principles they learned during the Challenge.
In addition to the all-expense paid trip to the Los Angeles area, all five families received gift bags from BGCA, and sponsors Coca-Cola and the WellPoint Foundation, to help them continue on their fitness journey. The winning family, the Takanishis from Hawaii, won an all-expense paid family vacation to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
