The Cartoon Network

CartoonNetworkCartoon Network is a supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Latino Outreach initiatives. In 2006, Cartoon Network funded the creation and distribution of materials that help Clubs recruit, train and retain Hispanic/Latino Club professionals who will, in turn, recruit and grow the Latino membership in all Clubs. In addition, Cartoon Network was a sponsor of BGCA’s Hispanic Heritage Month, assisting BGCA with marketing support and promotions to encourage Clubs throughout the country to celebrate and spread knowledge about Latino customs, holidays, historical figures, and themes.

Cartoon Network has also developed the Animate Your World program as a resource for Clubs. The educational program focuses on Respect for Self, Respect for Others and Responsibility to Community, and gives Club staff and the youth they serve the animation technology to make these life lessons come alive both in and out of the classroom. In 2007, a new, online version of Animate Your World became available to Clubs. The new program includes tools for importing your own graphics and backgrounds, music and voice recordings.

BGCA and Cartoon network have also partnered to create a unique fitness video starring Anna Kournikova, called “Give Me Five.” The “Give Me Five” program creates a resource for Boys & Girls Clubs to introduce daily movement as a way to stimulate non-traditional physical activity for kids (6-13). By taking five-minute breaks during other activities, kids will be energized to participate effectively in all activities; while having the fun of interacting with Cartoon Network characters and Anna Kournikova, a tremendous BGCA spokesperson and child advocate! These breaks allow kids to socialize, blow off steam, and become physically and mentally fit. Studies show that unstructured breaks help kids to focus better and complete tasks more effectively.
