Whitney S.
2015-2016 National Youth of the Year
“Through it all, ‘I will’ is the legacy I hope to leave.”

Congratulations to Whitney S., who was named Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2015-16 National Youth of the Year. As the eldest of three children raised by their hard-working single mother, Whitney helped her mom care for her younger siblings. She cites the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County, Florida, and its positive environment as a turning point in her life, including serving as president of Keystone Club, the teen leadership and service group. She was also a member of the BGCA National Teen Advisory Board. At school, Whitney earned exceptional grades and excelled in Junior R.O.T.C., attaining the school's top rank of Regimental Commander. She also created the student group "SEED to SOIL" to educate young people and their parents about healthy lifestyles and sustainable agriculture. Whitney plans to become a U.S. Air Force attorney, followed by a career in politics and academia.
