There is an inner maker in all kids & teens! That’s why Michaels and Boys & Girls Clubs of America are partnering to refresh creative spaces, donate supplies, and support skill-building across Boys & Girls Club youth development professionals.

Together, Michaels and Boys & Girls Clubs of America are committed to closing the opportunity gap for young people to experience creative arts. Our partnership with Michaels launched in 2019. At the center of our partnership is a commitment to MAKE over creative spaces in Clubs across the country. Michaels supports creativity within the many Clubs across North America – these makeovers are just the beginning.

Our three-year partnership has raised over $2M to support creativity at Clubs. Our partnership aims to achieve three key pillars of impact:

Space: Refreshes/refurbishments of 10 creative arts spaces in Clubs annually, dubbed “Michaels MAKE Spaces”

Supplies: Michaels engages in BGCA’s Back2School campaign with nationwide supply drives for local Clubs in-stores. Michaels offers its customers in stores across North America, the opportunity to purchase and donate arts & crafts supplies to their local Boys & Girls Clubs. This support allows for Clubs to help prepare members for back to school as well as back to Clubs. In addition to facilitating product donations, Michaels offers discount programs to Clubs that help offset arts programming costs.

Skills: Michaels support has helped to fund training, assistance and resources for Boys & Girls Club Youth Development Professionals, including Youth Development Institutes and Club Directors Academies.

Michaels supports Boys & Girls Clubs through multiple cause campaigns throughout the year, and Team Members visit their local Boys & Girls Clubs often to lend a helping hand with arts projects, programming, campus beautification and more.

Ultimate Maker’s Spaces

In 2019 Michaels and Boys & Girls Clubs of America partnered together to Make Great Futures. This partnership supports kids and teens around the country and their ability to make, to think creatively, and to dream in color. With the support of Michaels, nearly 30 Clubs across the U.S. have received funding to refresh, refurbish and transform dedicated arts rooms into ultimate Maker’s Spaces where creativity is unleashed and embraced! These grants improve existing footprints or add new art space to Clubs that will enhance both the environment and experience for Club members, while also driving new membership from area kids and teens. Each of these renovations help to make Clubs even better, more positive places for kids and teens to develop into future leaders of our communities. This partnership has ignited the MAKER in Club members!

Impact on Kids

Through partnering with Samsung, we expanded access to the DIY STEM program and developed the Climate Superstars Challenge. The DIY STEM program serves as the entry-point for all members' STEM learning experience at Clubs and provides youth exposure to STEM through five modules: Energy and Electricity, Engineering Design, Food Chemistry, Aeronautics and the Science of Sports: Football. Climate Superstars aims to encourage youth to raise awareness about climate change and motivate them to take actions that help protect the environment.

Samsung's partnership enables interactive, hands-on learning while providing students with new perspectives on STEM careers and access to the latest technology. In addition, our partnership with Samsung goes beyond our programs and includes cause marketing initiatives that help promote awareness and drive donations for the organization. Through exclusive access to unique experiences such as the Las Vegas Galaxy Studio pop-up with singer Kelly Rowland and music producer and artist DJ Marshmello and a Winter Wonderland video production featuring YouTube star Casey Neistat, Samsung helps expand their understanding of STEM and encourages them to be the next generation of creators and innovators.
