Today’s teens know the power of speaking up on the topics they’re passionate about, which is why Ahsha B., Club member at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, decided to start her own podcast called “Talks with Ahsha,” to inspire and motivate her peers. She covers topics like confidence building and how you should take pride on being your authentic self.

Ahsha is also an advocate for safe driving, thanks to The UPS Foundation’s Road Coad programming at her Club. Recently, Ahsha sat down with professional athlete, gold medalist and Boys & Girls Club alum Tamyra Mensah -Stock to discuss the dangers of distracted driving, peer pressure and Tamyra’s road to the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. The topic of driving safety close to home for Tamyra, who shares that she’s lost several loved ones to distracted driving.

Ahsha hopes that their conversation will raise awareness of the peer pressures that come with getting your license and inspire other teens like herself to be more alert on the road. Tune in:

Be aware of distracted driving and have a plan to stay focused on the road. A few common distractions include:

• Sending a text message
• Posting on social media
• Talking on a cell phone
• Using a navigation system
• Other passengers in the vehicle
• Playing music/adjusting the radio

Club members learn about driving through UPS Road Code, part of The UPS Foundation’s partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 2009. UPS Road Code teaches teens safe driving techniques by focusing on a variety of safety principles that include instruction around texting while driving or drinking while driving. Recently, UPS Road Code launched Virtual Reality headsets to provide an immersive learning experience and practice safe driving techniques.
