“The Club changed my life by helping me grow, become a better leader and how to use my voice. My Youth of the Year journey began three years ago. Through it, I’ve learned the meaning of perseverance and dedication. I couldn’t have made it without the support of my family, my friends and my Club."
Brandon has lived on several military instillations, including in Germany where he first became familiar with the Youth Center. He has learned valuable lessons during his seven years attending the Youth Center, including the value and importance of volunteering, what it means to step outside his comfort zone and how to be a role model for other youth.
Active in the community, Brandon works with organizations like Feeding America, Boy Scouts of America and the Hardin County Teen Court Program. He used to think of himself as more of a follower than a leader. Now, he is Keystone Club vice president, an Eagle Scout, a tutor and was vice president of his high school class.
As Youth of the Year, Brandon hopes to bring attention to bullying and decrease bullying-related suicides among youth, as well as cultivate inclusive environments for LGTBQ youth. The high school senior with a 4.0 grade point average plans to study education at Northwestern University.
