“I want to establish a platform for my generation to be seen and valued and lead them to a place of creativity, self-confidence and independence. With the Youth of the Year platform, I want to showcase my generation’s talents, abilities and platforms to solidify our mark in the world."
Janasia has experienced many of the same struggles as other military teens, including the deployment of her parents and friends who constantly move. She found a second home at her Youth Center, which has helped her navigate her emotions and feel empowered.
When she was bullied, a Youth Center mentor helped her through a difficult time. Youth Center programs were there for her in all aspects of her life, including health, sports, academics and fun. Janasia now leads an anti-bulling week at her school that focuses on self-affirmation, personal awareness and unity. She has logged more than 175 volunteer hours, served as president of her junior class and is president of her Keystone Club.
A high school senior, Janasia plans to attend Stanford University to study social work and sociology.
