“My Club has given me countless opportunities to better myself and I have taken them all. My Club is a safe haven, a place where I can go to be myself."
Kah’ron has always felt a sense of community and belonging at her Youth Center, where she has been a member for six years. The Youth Center provided her with her first job through its teen employment program when she was 14, in which she worked with younger children.
She has held several positions in the teen leadership program Keystone Club, including treasurer, vice president and president. CareerLaunch, a Boys & Girls Clubs of America career preparation program, helped her discover she wants to become a developmental psychologist. Kah’ron is passionate about health and wants to hold more community events to help young people stay active. She’d also like to use her Youth of the Year platform to provide more youth with resources and positive role models to help with homework and stay safe, like she feels at her Youth Center.
Kah’ron is a senior in high school and plans to study social work at the University of Connecticut when she graduates.
